Words of the Day

  • condescension
    • DEFINITION: (noun) A communication that indicates lack of respect by patronizing the recipient. SYNONYMS: disdain, patronage. USAGE: Natasha did not like the visitor's tone of condescension to childish things.
  • excavate
    • DEFINITION: (verb) Remove the inner part or the core of. SYNONYMS: dig, hollow. USAGE: The mining company wants to excavate the hillside and build a tunnel.
  • regurgitate
    • DEFINITION: (verb) Repeat after memorization. SYNONYMS: reproduce. USAGE: In order to score well on the exam, you must be able to regurgitate the information.

Stroop Effect

The Stroop Effect is seen when the brain receives two interfering inputs. In this example, you are supposed to say the color the words are written in, not the actual word. So for example. for:

Brown in blue

You are supposed to say 'blue', not brown. The interfering inputs in this case are the color of the words (blue) and the word itself, brown, which is another color.

Now try to say the color the following words are written in as fast as possible:
